Staðir/Places 2009 – Soundproject for place names and storage tank for fish oil

I travel frequently around Iceland with my husband Páll Ásgeir Ásgeirsson. Place names play an important role during these trips. They retain some of the history of our forefathers, a history that can easily be forgotten as our lifestyles and social structures undergo great change. Place names have different characters. Each of them is individual, and I like the idea of hearing them echoing inside the cavernous old fish oil silo at Djúpavík.

About the artist: Rósa Sigrún Jónsdóttir was born in 1962 on a farm in North Iceland. She graduated from the University of Education in Iceland in 1987 and from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2001. Since then she has been doing what needs to be done: teaching, cleaning, travelling, guiding, painting, crocheting, making videos and sculptures.
