Road to Hólmavík completed

Following two years of construction work, the mountain pass road 61 was finally opened for traffic last fall. The new road is entirely paved and runs between Breiðafjörður and Hólmavík (Steingrímsfjörður), which is almost parallel to the old mountain pass Tröllatunguheiði (605), but is in a much better condition to drive on. The number of the road section between Brú and the new road Þröskuldar has been changed to 68 (formerly 61).

As a result, it now takes about thirty minutes less to travel between Reykjavík and Djúpavík and the distance has been reduced by 40 km, as compared to the route from Brú along Húnaflói (68).
